Cherry Blossom Walk in Hyogo

The expansive prefecture of Hyogo has both mountains and seas, and a range of climates that is surprising for just one prefecture, and thus different seasonal flowers can be enjoyed here. Among these are flowers and cherry blossoms that are representative of Japan, and these can be found at famous spots scattered throughout the prefecture. Each year, in early through mid April, the cherry blossoms reach full bloom, and cherry blossom viewing can be enjoyed. During this period, events such as evening cherry blossom light-ups and festivals are held at various locations.

Cherry tree of Shikugawa Park

The sides of Shuku-gawa River, which flows through Nishinomiya City, are lined with about 1,700 cherry trees on a 2.8-km stretch that runs from north to south. This is a famous location on the list of the 100 Best Well-Known Cherry Blossom Spots in Japan. Here, it is possible to view numerous cherry tree varieties.Among these are cherry trees that are unique to Nishinomiya City.Each year in early April, the Nishinomiya Cherry Blossom Festival is held.As such, the time for enjoying cherry blossoms here is early April.

Kokoen / Cherry blossom viewing at night

Koko Park is a Japanese garden inside Himeji Castle.It covers an area of about 3.5 hectares. The park is made up of nine different Japanese gardens. It is possible for people of the general public to take walks in the Japanese gardens. This is a famous spot for cherry blossoms, so it is visited by many people in the spring. The cherry blossoms season here is in early April, as this is when the cherry blossoms are in bloom.During the first weekend of April, a light-up event is held inside of the park.

Kinosaki Onsen

Kinosaki Onsen in Toyooka City is a famous hot spring with 1,400 years of history. It features seven hot spring facilities well-known as places for “sotoyu meguri” (visiting hot spring facilities outside the hotel/inn where one is staying).Each of the hot springs has unique characteristics that bathers can experience. Otani-gawa River here is lined with cherry trees from Kiyamachi-dori Street to Onsen-ji Temple and Yakushi Park. In the evening, there is a light-up of the cherry trees during the cherry blossom season.

Sasayama Castle Ruins

Sasayama Castle is a famous location for cherry blossoms. In spring, about 1,000 cherry trees surrounding the moat of Sasayama Castle bloom. During the cherry blossom season, there are light-ups in the evenings. Visitors can enjoy the sight of cherry blossoms together with high stone castle walls. The cherry blossoms bloom here in early April.

Arima Onsen

Arima Hot Spring has been known as a famous spot for cherry blossoms since around the Edo period. There is a beautiful 270-year-old weeping cherry tree at Zenpuku-ji Temple, as well as impressive cherry trees at Tsuzumigataki Park, Onsen-ji Temple, and Nenbutsu-ji Temple, and riverside rows of Yoshino cherry trees.
