Cherry Blossom Walk in Hyogo

An immense prefecture of Hyogo embraced in the mountains and ocean, where climate varies widely, enable us to enjoy beautiful flowers in each seasons. Especially for cherry blossoms, representative of country of Japan, there are famous spots scattered throughout the prefecture. Every year in early through mid April cherry blossoms reach to full bloom, and you can enjoy Ohanami (cherry blossom viewing). During this period, some events are held at various locations, such as evening cherry blossom light-ups and festivals.

Kobe/Hanshin Area

Cherry Blossoms at Shukugawa Park

The sides of Shuku-gawa River, which flows through Nishinomiya City, are lined with about 1,700 cherry trees on a 2.8-km stretch that runs from north to south. This spot is chosen as "100 Best Cherry Blossom Viewing Sites". You can see various kinds of cherry blossoms here, and one of them are originated in Nishinomiya City. Nishinomiya Cherry Blossom Festival is held every year in early April, it's the best time to enjoy the beautiful cherry blossoms.



Koko-en / Cherry Blossom Viewing at Night

Koko-en is a 3.5-hectare park with 9 different Japanese gardens located inside Himeji Castle. You can take a walk in traditional Japanese gardens. This is a famous spot for cherry blossoms, many people visit here in the spring. The best time to see cherry blossoms here is early April. A light-up event is held in the park on the first weekend of April.



Kinosaki Onsen

Kinosaki Onsen in Toyooka City is famous for its hot spring with 1,400 years of history. It features seven hot spring facilities well-known as places for “Sotoyu Meguri” (visiting hot spring facilities outside the hotel/inn where the guest is staying). Each of the hot springs have unique characteristics. Cherry trees are planted alongside Otanigawa River, from Kiyamachi Street to Onsen-ji Temple and Yakushi Park. The cherry trees are lit up in the evening during the cherry blossom season.



Sasayama Castle Ruins

Sasayama Castle is a famous location for its beautiful scenery of cherry blossoms. In spring time, about 1000 cherry trees are blooming around the outer moat. and the area is lit up at night during the season. You can enjoy cherry blossoms together with the famous high stone castle walls. The cherry blossoms bloom here in early April.


Kobe/Hanshin Area

Arima Onsen

Arima Onsen has been known as a famous spot for cherry blossoms since the Edo period. There is a beautiful 270-year-old weeping cherry tree at Zenpuku-ji Temple, as well as impressive cherry trees at Tsuzumigataki Park, Onsen-ji Temple, Nenbutsu-ji Temple, and riverside rows of Someiyoshino cherry trees.
