Trip to San'in Kaigan Geopark

You will explore San'in Kaigan Geopark, which spreads through Kyoto, Hyogo, and Tottori. After a sight-seeing in Kyoto, you will head to Amanohashidate in the North of Kyoto. Next you will proceed to Hyogo from Amanohashidate, exploring shorelines of San'in Kaigan Geopark. There is a touring boat which you can go sailing the Sea of Japan. In Yumura Onsen, it is very rare that water boils at 98 degrees Celcius. You will go to Tottori on the last day and visit Tottori Sand Dunes.

Genbudo Cave

Genbudo Park is one of the major spots at San'in Kaigan Geopark. It is constructed in a series of caves made approximately 1.6 million years ago by volcanic activity. Valley of rock which was made when lava is cooled and hardened is very beautiful. There are Seiryudo Cave, Byakodo Cave, Kitasuzakudo Cave, five sinuses of Minamisuzakudo Cave.

Accommodations Kinosaki Onsen

Kinosaki Onsen is said to be discovered by an 'Kounotori', Oriental stork around 1400 years ago. It is a beautiful place with the willow trees planted on the banks of Otanigawa River. The traditional Japanese hot spring town is remained here, such as Japanese Ryokan made of wood. There are renowend 7 public baths in Kinosaki Onsen, that are more popular than baths in Ryokans. Enjoy visiting 7 baths wearing a Yukata (light cotton summer kimono).

Kinosaki Marine World

Kinosaki Marine World is an aquarium with exquisite views of the Sea of Japan. There is a water tank of 12m deep, where you can see numerous species of ocean and river fish. The dolphin and seal shows are especially popular. You can also enjoy fishing for mackerel, and have your catch deep-fried as tempura. With a reservation, you can even touch the dolphins.

(Lunch) Takeno Beach, Kitamae-kan

Takeno Coast is chosen as '88 Best Sea-Bathing Beaches in Japan', '100 Best Sea Shore in Japan'. It's a beautiful beach with white sands and a green pine grove. This is one of the most popular beach and you can enjoy marine sports and camping in the summer. You can enjoy fresh seafood at Kitamaekan, located nearby, as well as Onsen after swimming.

Amarube Iron Bridge 'Sky Station'

Amarube Bridge is a rail bridge on the JR San'in Line between Yoroi and Amarube Stations. It is now a concrete structure, but the bridge was originally a span of iron. It stands 41m high and three bridge piers are preserved. There is an observation facility in Amarube Station, from which you can walk to Amarube Bridge, with the stunning view of Sea of Japan.

Tajima Shore Pleasure Boat

You can see San'in Kaigan Geopark from the ocean on Tajima Shore Pleasure Boat. Wndswept seacoasts, cave entrances and strangely shaped rocks in Tajima Coast looks wonderful. The geography of the coasts shows how the Japanese archipelago came into being. And a part of the bottom of the ship is transparent for the visitors. Enjoy a 50-minute cruise to appreciate the beautiful scenery of the Sea of Japan.

Accommodations Yumura Onsen

Yumura Onsen gushes with geothermal water at 98°C. Hot springs of such extremely high temperatures are rare even in Japan. At a hot spring named Ara-yu, you can boil eggs with the gushing water. Eggs are sold for this purpose at nearby shops. The locals also boil vegetables in the water. There is also a hot footbath about 20 meters long.

Daijo-ji Temple

Daijo-ji is a temple of Mt. Koya Shingon sect of Buddhism. The temple is famous for 165 shoheki-ga (pictures on room partitions) from Edo Era drawn by Maruyama Okyo and his disciples. These shoheki-ga are skillfully drawn so that they present different three-dimensional images depending on the angle. The pictures drawn on the fusuma (sliding screens) have especially high artistic value. You can see the traditional painting techniques and Buddhist artworks in Japan.

(Lunch) Tajima Pasture Park, Tajima Beef

At Tajima Pasture Park you can see Tajima cattle, a breed of cattle renowned worldwide and native to Hyogo Prefecture. Tajima cattle is a wagyu breed and origin of Kobe Beef. You can experience brushing and feeding Tajima cattle, and pet sheep, goats and rabbits. You can try Tajima Beef at the restaurant in the park. Skiing and other snow sports are available in the winter.
