This course will take you to Tamba district from the northern part of Kobe city. On the first day you will enjoy shopping and gourmet in the center of Kobe city. And you will go to the northern part of Kobe next.  Mt. Rokko is a famous spot in Kobe for beautiful scenery. At night you will stay in the oldest Onsen in Japan, Arima Onsen. You can go to Kobe Sanda Outlet by car from there, where you can buy famous brand items for discounted price. In Sasayama, you can experience traditional Japanese culture such as old castles, Tanba-Yaki (famous pottery).

Former Foreign Settlement

Former Foreign Settlement in Kobe is where foreigners resided when Kobe Port opened in 1868. There are many Western-style buildings remained here that are constructed out of brick and stone. Currently this place is known as influential fashion district in Kobe. There are many well-known brand shops, clothing stores, and sweets shops. For lunch, try famous Kobe Beef. Enjoy the world's finest taste.

Kobe Nankinmachi is one of Japan’s 'three great Chinatowns' alongside Yokohama Chinatown and Nagasaki Chinatown. Over a hundred of shops including restaurants, Chinese food stores and variety shops stand in a row in this popular sightseeing area. Many shops sell sweets and dim sum, making Nankinmachi the perfect place for strolling and trying different specialties. Come and explore the delicious Chinese food in Kobe Nankinmachi!

Mt. Rokko

Rokko Garden Terrace is located on the top of Mt. Rokko. There are restaurants, café, and shops. Its observatory is popular for the night view. Also in the daytime you can see Akashi Kaikyo Bridge or Kansai International Airport from the observatory. The Rokko-Shidare is an observatory built with Japanese cypress. You can feel the scent if you enter the observatory room.

Accommodations Arima Onsen

Arima Onsen is one of the oldest and most famous hot spring in Japan. It is located 30 minutes by car from Osaka and Kobe, and in less than 1 hour from Kyoto. The hot springs here are called 'Gold Springs', rich in iron, and has a color of reddish brown. The clear hot springs here are called 'Silver Springs'. It is highly recommended to explore the Onsen resort town with many gift shops. Also you can enjoy delicious local cuisine at inns and hotels.

Kobe-Sanda Premium Outlets is modeled on Pasadena, a luxurious residential suburb of Los Angeles. Located close to Arima Onsen, this outlet mall is the largest in western Japan. The shelves of this mall are stocked with about 90 illustrious brands from throughout Japan and around the world. There are also many restaurants and cafés inside.

Tamba Traditional Art Craft Park 'Tachikui Sue-no-Sato'

One of the oldest ceramics ware in Japan, Tambayaki. In Tachikui Sue-no-Sato, you can experience clay work and ceramics painting. There is also a museum inside to learn the history and technique of Tambayaki. You can purchase Tambayaki ware from 55 potteries at ‘Kamamoto-Yokocho’. Tambayaki potteries are dotted around the area, and it is recommended to stroll around a pathway lined with potteries.

Sasayama Castle Ruins Sasayama Castle town

Sasayama Castle Ruins is one of the finest examples of castle architecture in Japan. Today only the massive stone walls are remained from the original castle. The current O-shoin, rebuilt in April 2000, exhibits how Sasayama Castle was built and the Castle town was formed in an earlier era. Surrounded by an outer moat brimming with water, the Castle Ruins is known as one of the best spot for cherry blossoms in spring. Around the Castle Ruins Japanese traditional cityscape remains as Castle town, and you can tour around the town.
