Special Exhibition 'Past and Present of Chirimen Work'
(特別展「ちりめん細工の今昔」)

'Chirimen' is a traditional silk fabric with 'shibo', fine wavy crinkle on a surface. It has the history from Edo era and has been loved as materials of Kimono in Japan. This exhibition displays a collection of old Chirimen works which Japan Toy Museum collected over 40 years, and the new Heisei Chirimen works which was revived after 30 years of the spread and transmission campaigns. Approximately 1,000 items are displayed and you can see the history of needleworks and handicrafts handed down from the hands of the women in Edo era.
