Ikuno Silver Mine

It is the text from here.

Ikuno Silver Mine played a significant role in the modernization of Japan. The mine was in operation for over a thousand years, from start of excavation in 807 to its closing in 1973. The total tunnel length is over 350km, and the depth is over 880m. A part of the tunnel is open to the public, and you can observe the rock face as it would have appeared and a mockup of the work scene using mechatronic puppets. The temperature in the tunnel is about 13°C throughout year, so a visit in summer is highly recommended.
